Curriculum

We provide a broad, balanced and exciting curriculum to ensure the best possible level of achievement for all children. We employ a cross curricular approach as this makes learning a more meaningful and motivating experience for all pupils

Our curriculum is designed to combine knowledge, skills and attitudes into engaging topics. The topics change depending upon the children’s interests to make them meaningful; themes have included: Spaceship Earth, Pole to Pole, Super heroes, Ready, Steady Cook, and Young Citizens. Well planned topic themes enables and encourages links with home and the community, supports children’s independent and group learning skills and provides a variety of opportunities for pupils to learn.

A focus is placed on the development of skills and attitudes such as problem solving, reasoning and self awareness which underpin the content and are ongoing and transferable.

We ensure the curriculum includes a robust and rigorous approach to the teaching of reading, writing, maths and Computing. We have effective assessment systems in place which enable us to carefully track individual progress and quickly put support or extension in where needed.

Creativity is at the heart of our learning. Children have access to excellent provision through our specialist teachers.

Music plays a vibrant part in the life of the school. Listening, singing and music making activities are provided in weekly class music lessons and assemblies taught by a specialist teacher. We have a choir and a band and individual and whole class instrumental lessons. Children have the chance to share their creativity through performances in and beyond school.

"Wonderful displays of the children’s art work is everywhere, the artwork is brilliant!"

Visitor to the school

We have a specialist art teacher who works across the school. Children have the opportunity to develop their skills in a range of media and contribute to fantastic exhibitions held within and beyond the school. We also run very popular after school art clubs
