Relationships and Health Education
The aim of our curriculum is to build the knowledge, skills and attitudes pupils need to become informed, articulate and empowered. Relationships education provides learning essential to the wellbeing and safety of our pupils. The topics covered are families, friendships, respectful relationships, being safe (including online)
In Health Education, children develop an understanding of how to look after themselves empowering them to lead positive lifestyles. Themes covered: mental wellbeing, physical health and fitness, healthy eating, drugs, alcohol and tobacco, basic first aid, and key facts about changes during puberty including physical and emotional changes.
Many of the themes are covered in our autumn term topics around identity and being the best you can. Other themes are taught through our phase group assemblies, through circle time or as discussion points in oracy sessions. We link learning with other topics and subjects – for example, the teaching of healthy eating encompasses science and design technology.
