Nov 2015: Anti-bullying Policy & Advice

Anti-bullying policy and advice

One of the areas we are focussing on this year is anti-bullying; we want to be sure children know what to do if they are being bullied, have been a bystander or even the bully. We recently updated the school policy which covers our procedures and give advice and information for parents.

This term we have been running Kidscape Anti bullying lessons in Y4 and Y5 and the Bright Minds, Bright Moods programme in Y6. Children are learning to identify what bullying is, and is not, how to get help or help others, recognising feelings and emotions, and improving confidence. Children are taught to use the Kidscape ‘toolbox’ of bullying defence skills to help them to keep safe both on-line, out of school and in school.

School Council are gathering pupil views and developing an anti-bullying charter for the school.

Monday November 16th marks the start of a national anti-bullying week. In addition to special lessons and assemblies we have a theatre group performing The Power of One, a show about the power of bystanders in preventing bullying.

Kidscape will be running a workshop for parents on 20th January to help you to recognise the signs, causes and effects of bullying. On the website (Parents tab/ safeguarding) we have a range of resources to help parents. If you do have any concerns please come and talk to the school staff and we will do our best to support you.
