School Meals Increasing to £2.30 per day

The Council has agreed to increase the price of school meals in primary schools from £2.15 to £2.30. The new price will take effect from September 2015. The meal price paid by you should have increased in April 2015, but the Council has been covering the increased cost until the end of this academic year.

This increase is a result of the Council’s policy on London Living Wage (LLW), which will now be paid to all the catering staff. This is to help ensure fair salaries and the wellbeing of school catering staff and their families.

To minimise the increased cost, the Council negotiated with the contractor for them to contribute towards the cost of the LLW and change some of their arrangements.

If you are eligible for free school meals, please make sure you are claiming your entitlement - if you think you qualify, please contact the school.  We would also like to seek the support of parents in infant schools who are entitled to free meals to register for their entitlement, although they are on government-funded universal free school meals, as the funding will help us to increase our school budget.
